Background images (PNG) creation not possible

I am using Acrobat v7.08 Professional on Windows XP.

I have created an 8 page form in Publisher and converted to PDF.

Using an Anoto plug-in I used text field tools to define areas (a PAD file) ready for OCR and then...

When trying to create backgroung images in the form of PNGs I either receive an 'IO error' or Adobe crashes altogether.

I have performed this operation on hundreds of other forms with no problem, indeed it works on all my other forms now, some of which are larger and more complicated.

I have tried creating new publisher and PDF files and regenerating PAD files.

Any ideas why it refuses to create background images? Please help!
