Reader 8.0 will not launch

When I double click the Reader application, or a PDF file directly, the program will not even launch. I have this problem with both Acrobat reader 8.0 and 7.x. If I go back to 6.0.5 I can get that to work.

I have not seen this problem addressed in the support section. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
