That does nothing on a Mac OS X 10.4.8 system. You actually can't hold down the shift key when double-clicking an application to launch it in Mac OS X because all that does is toggle the selection of the icon itself and doesn't launch it.

So, I tried double-clicking the app to lauch it and THEN hold down the shift key while it starts up and of course that had no effect whatsoever. After about 10 to 15 seconds, the app crashes.

I see more and more people reporting this crash so I'm convinced this is a MAJOR bug in tha Adobe Reader 8.0 code and Adobe will have to fix it before I will install this again.
