Recently, when I start my personal laptop computer (OS-Windows XP Service Pack 2), I get a message stating that there is an Update Pending. When I read further, it states, "Adobe Reader has not finished installing one or more updates. Would you like to resume? I click "yes". Then a messages opens and states, " A file with the same name already exists in this location. Click Replace to overwrite the existing file, or Change Destination to specify a different download destination. I click "Replace". Then usually a small balloon opens and states "Adobe Reader Update Manager needs your attention". I then get a window that states, "Unable to access server (408). Please try again later. I click on continue and the process repeats itself until finally I get a message that states, " Cannot write to file. C:\Program File\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\Update\Ac705RdP_efgj.exe This file may be locked or you do not have sufficient access rights. Please make sure you have write access to this file.
