Font embedding stops working in adobe 8

Hi, until recently we have been using adobe reader 5.0 with no problems whatsoever. Now that we have upgraded to version 8 the font embedding is no longer working. We are receiving the following error: "Cannot extract the embedded font "Frutiger FT Light". Some characters may not display or print correctly.". The font is a custom font which our client requires. A pdf is being generated from a reporting system with the fonts embedded.

I know that this works as it was working in version 5. I have gone back to version 5 and if you got to document properties I can see that the font is correctly embedded. So why does this stop working in version 8?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
