I am also trying to install an update to the Reader. About once a week I get a pop-up telling me that the Reader needs attention. When I click on it a download starts, but when I go to install it I always get this error message: "Package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists - etc. etc. I have been really getting pissed at this thing constantly failing so I went to the website and downloaded the older upgrade and the very same thing happened there too. I have also tried to download and install the latest 8.0 version and I get the very same error message. I am really getting sick of this. The Adobe website is useless and that's why I'm here in a last ditch hope to get an answer. So far my old reader is working just fine, but if it should stop, I just hope somebody else out there has a more popular program and I won't have to use the Adobe Reader any more. BTW, I am using Windows XP SP2 with Reader 5.0.5.
