Adding 8.0 Reader - can I still use 6.0 Standard?

When Adobe released Reader 7.0, I upgraded and found that my 6.0 Standard (bought and paid for!!) lost ALL of its functionality. The only way to get it back was to uninstall Reader 7.0 from my system. Well, now I need a new version of the Reader because my credit card company's web site allows you to download all of your statements in .pdf format BUT it doesn't work in Reader 6.0 -- the company specifically mentions 6.0 as being "excluded" although apparently all other versions of the Reader from 4.0 on DO work. (And in fact 6.0 really doesn't work because I just tried to download the statements and they froze every time.)

So my question is, if I download Reader 8.0 will I once again lose all functionality in 6.0 Standard? If so, WHY does Adobe do that???? I bought and paid for Adobe 6.0 Standard and use it all the time -- why should I lose that just for upgrading to a new, freely-available-to-everyone version of the READER ONLY??

Any help would be appreciated!!

thanks,
Karen in New Hampshire
