I have the same problem on my MBP, both with Reader 8 and Acrobat 8 Professional. Crashes within 30 seconds of launch. I've made numerous posts about it in the Acrobat for Mac forum, as well as sending in bug reports. Just like in the reports above, the thread #0 running the Update check causes the crash. I've repaired permissions, deleted all acrobat-related preferences and caches in /Library /System/Library as well as ~/Library. Still crashes. I have no new information really, just a "me too".
