When I try to read a document in Adobe Reader 8

When I try to read a document in Adobe Reader 8.0, it come into the reader at 238% which only a portion is displayed and I cannot read any or the rest as the document is off of the page and I cannot scroll to it.

When I reduce the % to 100, only the left half of each page is shown, and I cannot read the rest of the page (right half)either.

How do I correct this?
