I bumped into this problem while using these tools:
 <http://magic.aladdin.cs.cmu.edu/2005/07/15/pdfopen-and-pdfclose/>

Open a file with the command
pdfopen --file somefile.pdf
and close the Reader window.

I did not try to compile these tools myself.
