Try completely uninstalling Version 8 and ALL other versions from your machine. DO NOT use the copy of 8 that you downloaded-delete it and download a fresh copy. Make sure that you have No other programs running. I am assuming that you have either XP Pro or Home w/SP2 and all updates. As to browsers, I use Firefox as my primary without issues.
