Faxing with Reader 8 and MS Fax API

There appears to be a bug when trying to fax a PDF file with the Microsoft Windows Fax API with Adobe Reader 8 installed. It worked properly in Acrobat 6&7 and Reader 7. What happens after upgrading to Reader 8 is that Reader launches but instead of the document going out to the fax device, a copy is printed to the default printer on the system and the application calling the Fax API just sits and waits for a fax that never gets sent.

I did try manually printing to my Fax device after Reader had opened and printed to my default printer. The fax then got sent to the fax server with the sender and recipient information from my custom application, and everything returned to normal.

So, an automated process has now become a manual one unless your fax device is set as your default printer.

Has anyone else encountered this issue yet?

Thanks,

Al
