I have the same issue - can't Search in some PDF files, while I can search in other PDF files The gist of what I'm understanding here is that if the sender has simply scanned the printed text (eg. at a xerox machine), Search won't work. I've just checked on a PDF that came today by email, which I happen to know WAS scanned - and sure enough, it is not Searchable. I am assuming that in other cases (because many documents I get ARE searchable), that the document preparer has "PDFed" the PDF directly from a word processing file, retaining the underlying (searchable) data. Assuming that is the answer to the problem we are all noting -- what can be done about it? If we have the full Adobe Acrobat (not just Reader), can we "read" the PDF with the full Adobe program, OCR it, and resave? This can make a big difference in my business (law firm), so any advice or suggestions most welcome
