I had this same problem. I think I corrupted my system by never previously uninstalling version 5 & 6. I had gotten to the point I could not look at a pdf file.

Fortunately I found an application that included Reader (7.0.5) on the CD, unpacked that, and ran the install. I then had two copies in Add/Remove Programs. I uninstalled the one I just installed, but it left enough working that a corrput 7.0.5 will allow me to read.

I cannot uninstall it; the Microsoft repair utility will not repair it; I cannot update it. Hope this helps others. I would really like to know who to uninstall and clean my system to install 7.0.8 and be able to move forward....
