Had a perfectly operating system, but followed Adobe's recommendation to update to a 7.0.8 of Adobe Reader and got blown out of the water. Can't use the "new" Reader (error 1317), can't uninstall using Add/Remove Programs (error 2330.23 and fatal installation error). Won't let me download a new copy and reinstall over the top. So I'm now the proud owner of an inoperable and uninstallable. The solution to an upgrade gone south: Pay Adobe $40 to help me restore my system to where it was before the upgrade! See others on this forum have run into the same thing with the 7.0.8 upgrade.
   Wasn't at all happy to find that it would cost me $40 to get help from Adobe after their recommended update blew out a previously perfectly operating system.
   It looks like I may be looking at a HD Format C: and a total re-installation of all my software to clean up the Reader mess.
   Tried to get rid of all Adobe entries in the registry and on the HD. However, the Reader folder is the only thing I can't remove. It's been acting strangely ever since the update, taking forever to open, etc. Shows 0 files, including hidden files, but every time I try to delete it, it gives me a message that the directory is not empty. Can rename it and move it, but not delete it. Tried deleting from the command, have full permissions under security,etc. Still takes a long time to open as open as if it's searching for something. Anybody have any idea how to drive a stake into this phantom folder, now sitting on my desktop and renamed "Vampire".
