I also have the same problem. I downloaded 7.0.8 and can no longer open a pdf file. If I'm on the Internet and open a pdf file, my computer freezes. I tried the Windows Install Cleanup Utility and had the same experience you have had, no luck. I still get the message This version of Adobe Reader is already present on your computer but it won't work. I went to the Program file and tried to install it from there with the same results. (Dell Inspiron running XP)
