Ever since upgrading to Reader 7.0.8 and Mac OS 10.4.8, I get the same message. Adobe has posted a response "How To: Could not create an EDB database" @ <http://support.adobe.com/devsup/devsup.nsf/docs/54170.htm>, suggesting changing permissions of /Library/CFMSupport so that the file "edb1drv" could be placed there.

However, after doing that, Activation attempts result in a new error:

"Your Adobe software could not be activated.
Unable to download necessary files at this time.
Please try again later.
Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 9).
Fault location: 9
Contact customer support. 'OK' "

This permission change make a system / root level folder read / write by user & group, allowing the "database driver dynamic link library" edb1drv to be installed, but stil no Digital Editions -> Authorize Devices success. That files is dated 10/03/03, and other forum posts to this topic and another indicate going back to Reader 6 as a workaround.

I'm not sure when it happened it on either of 2 systems, an Intel MacBook Pro or a PPC G5. But it used to work with Reader 6 and possibly before 10.4 (Tiger). Now a book I bought is unreadeable, and I'm suspect about the permissions. Disk Utility 'Reapir Permissions" didn't changed them back, but a user shouldn't be the owner of anything in /Library/CFMSupport. This would appear to be a DRM / Reader / OS X issue, if I'm not off base.
