We're using adobe 6 professional and some of our clients are having issues with being able to open the files. Most of our computers have at least 512 mb of RAM and we're all on Windows XP SP2. One of our clients is having problems with every PDF that we send them. He's got 1 GIG of RAM and is also using XP SP2. He tried printing the document via outlook and all he got was ascii characters. I had him try to already have acrobat open and click on the open button to open the document from there and that didn't work either. I have seen where acrobat 6 has issues opening PDFs created in acrobat 7, but would expect the later version to be backward compatible.
