I forgot to mention yesterday that I decided to deal with the problem by calling up Task Manager just before shutting down or restarting and killing the AcroRd32.exe process. There's really no need for a program or a script. I have a shortcut to Task Manager on my desktop, so a few clicks get the job done. It's a nuisance, but I don't like getting error messages.
