Adobe Reader Will Not Install Version 7.0.8

After downloading the version and attempting to run the installer I get the error reading "The file does not have a program associated with it. Create an association in the Folder Options panel." The message indicates that the extensio is ".AOM".

The installation is on a clean hard drive with no prior version of the Adobe Reader.

They do not, however give yoy any inication of what program this should point to. How can I find out?
