Since I am receiving this error message also, when I am converting a word file (Word 2003 with XP as OS) with the Acrobat prof. 6.0.5, I browsed around the Internet.
The problem appears also in conjunction with Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, when PDF conversaion s carried out

According to other sites, it appears that the Unicode-fonts are causing the problem, specially the "@Arial Unicode MS".
Some people (from the forum in PDFZone) said that the solution is to replace the fonts with a regular "Arial" before converting to PDF.

What definetely does not help is changing the setting from "optimize for speed" to "optimize for portability". This was a setting that I also had good experience with.

There are also complaints, that Adobe has no solution for / indication of this error in it s knowledge database.

good luck
