I'm having a similar problem with large documents - in this instance it's ones I've generated by concatenating a large number of small .pdfs into one file, about 3000 pages long. The small .pdfs can be searched OK, but searching the large file results in hits being missed, or not found at all. I'm pretty sure this is a Reader 7.x bug - the reason being that searching the same documents on full Acrobat 6.0, or earlier versions of Reader (I've tried 5.x and 4.x) gives 100% hits, suggesting that there's nothing wrong with my .pdf file. This is a big problem for us, as the customer that receives this file can't manually search 3000 pages of text! For now, we've advised them to use earlier Reader versions, which is not ideal.
