Adobe Reader 7.0.8 (latest), Mac OS X 10.4.7 (latest); either of two different model (and driver) HP Printers.

Parts of some documents print gibberish or "boxes" with some fonts. I thought it might be specific to fonts like ApplyMyungio which have no italic or bold fonts, though that what was used in the documents. If that text is selected and copied to MS Word (2004), boxes show up. The text displays correctly in Adobe Reader; also, if the selected text is right clicked, the "search" text is boxes as well. The boxes print either bold or slanted (italic) depending on the original font.

But now I have another document where the font is Times New Roman, a pretty generic font which has all of the various variations: bold, italic, and regular. It just prints nonsense character. That text was enclosed in borders from the original application. Cut and pasting of that text is OK.

The document PDF's were produced by two different programs: Mac OS X 10.4.7 Quartz PDFContext in the AppleMyungio case, and Mac OS X 10.3.9 Quartz PDF Context in the Times New Roman case.

Both documents display correctly in Adobe Reader; it is printing which is totally broken.

Note that both documents print correctly if printed from Apple Preview.

All the fonts in these documents are listed as being embedded subset, and "use local fonts" has no effect. Also note that if I produce a simple document with either of these fonts using Word 2004 (just a few lines and no graphics), all is OK as well.

Since Acrobat is supposed to produce PORTABLE documents, this is a serious problem for emailing document around. The problem is similar, though not identical in Adobe Reader 7.0.0.

Adobe: I can send you sample documents if you want o fix the problem.
