Hi Dave,

I finally managed to fix my system, however I am not exactly sure what fixed it. I will tell you what I did and you can give it a try.

Using Windows Explorer look in Progaram Files/Adobe/ and see if you have folders marked Acrobat 6, Acrobat 7 etc. I did so I physically deleted anything other than the Acrobat 7 folder. Now go to Acrobat 7/Setup Files and see if you have sub-folders RdrBig, RdrBig707, RdrBig708. In each of these there should be a single sub-folder named ENU in which all of the setup files are stored. Old versions of Acrobat which have successfully been un-installed should have no files in the ENU folder. Also, and I suspect that it may be part of the problem, you may see one or more sub-folders named ENU_ or ENU__ or even ENU___.

I physically deleted RdrBig and its empty ENU folder but when I went to RdrBig707, it had several ENU subfolders, some of which had a couple of files in them and some which had 7 or 8 files. In two of the ENU folders the files were exactly the same, so reasoning that this was not right I decided to keep only one folder named ENU complete with the 7 or 8 files and I deleted the other redundant ENU_ folders. I performed the same operation on the RdrBig708 folder and its ENU sub-folders. Note the ENU folder under RdrBig708 does have 8 files but since my current RdrBig 707 ENU sub-folder is now empty (after a successful un-install) I can't recall if there were 7 or 8 files in that one.

Now, I decided to see if I could re-install version 7.0.7 so I double clicked on the setup.exe file in the ENU folder. I was extremely gratified to see that everything ran ok and version 7.0.7 installed perfectly. I now went through Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs to see if I could un-install the newly installed 7.0.7, and to my surprise it worked. I also had just purchased RegCure so I cleaned the registry several times until all registry link (and other program link) errors were removed. I re-booted and ran RegCure once again to check that everything was still clean, and when it was I tried installing a newly downloaded copy of Acrobat 7.0.8. Everything went perfectly and I now have a correctly installed version of 7.0.8

When I checked on the RdrBig 707 ENU sub-folder I noted that it was now empty (I assumed from the successful un-install procedure) but when I went to the RdrBig708 folder I noted it had both ENU and ENU_ sub-folders each with exactly the same files (8) in it. I am fairly sure that my new install of 7.0.8 had created a new ENU_ sub-folder which really was redundant. I blew the second ENU_ folder away and kept only the ENU. It seems that each time you re-install a new ENU sub-folder is created which I am sure has to be a bug or at least an unintentional oversight. I would have thought that each time you re-installed a chechk would be made to see if ENU existed and the correct files were in it, and if so, then skip this step. It seems that if you have more than one ENU folder and any old un-installed versions of RdrBIg which still have ENU folders with files in them, then this may be a reason for a corrupt installation. It may be the reason preventing a normal un-install or re-install where you get the message saying you already have 7.0.8 on your system. I don't know for sure, but at least mine works now.

You may have another regcleaner such as Easycleaner (free) so you don't have to buy RegCure. See how it goes for you.
