clear out your temp folder and temporary internet files. open acrobat or reader from within windows (not your browser) and you may find that it is either trying to update or has updated already and needs to be restarted. The best way for acrobat to run is to set the preferences to NOT open the pdf in your browser--- exit all internet browsers, open acrobat/reader, hit ctrl+K, go to Internet, uncheck "display pdf in browser"; Restart your internet browser and try opening the PDF again. Unchecking that Internet option in Acrobat will remove the copy of the plugin in your browsers' directories and will use windows to open Acrobat/Reader.
