PDF file prints jibberish or not at all

I have downloaded several files from the same website. Several print fine, several will pring as if in a different language and a form will print the outline of the form itself but with no words in it, just some periods and commas. what should I do? I am using adobe 7.0 and Microsoft office 2003. I have a Hewlitt Packard Pavilion laptop and a Compaq U650 printer. Thanks.
