Using Reader to view PDFs in the Far East and SE Asia

My organization is in the midst of creating a web presence in several of our key markets (Indonesia, China, Thailand, Korea, Taiwan, Viet Nam, etc.) - I've had some feedback that PDFs are generally not used in those countries/regions and that they are problematic with Asian operating systems.

Does anyone have any information that substantiates or contradicts this? I've searched the forum boards, but couldn't find anything useful.
