Repetitive update notifications

About once every week or two I get a notification that I need to update the Reader to version 7.0.8. I go through the entire updating process, including rebooting. However, after doing so, the splash screen still says I am using version 7.0.5. And, of course, I get another notification to update again a week or two later.

What makes the situation even stranger is that Windows Add/Remove Programs shows me as having version 7.0.8 on my system.

Any ideas about what is going on here? Do I actually have 7.0.8 installed. If so, how can I get rid of these distracting notifications? If not, why not and how do I fix the problem?
