Adobe Reader Won't Install

I have downloaded Reader 7.0.8 and continually get a message that it is already installed so the installation does not finish. It is not in Program Files, temp files, documents and settings or any of the other places I have looked. Used "file search" to find anything connected with Adobe and deleted all older versions before installing new version, restarted computer, tried saving instead of running at download, read all the help docs I could find and I'm still stuck! The file AdbeRdr708_en_US.exe is there but running it produces the "already installed" message. I am running WinXP Media Center ED. 2004, with SP2, IE6 and OE6. I can not read pdf files from any location because, regardless of what the message says, I believe this file is not installed. Any help will be greatly appreciated...Carol
