cannot communicate with scanner

get error message "cannot communicate with scanner" when prompting "create a pdf from scanner"
Scanner does have communication with my computer. It does create pdf if I press the pdf button on my scanner.
Have re booted, but still come up with same error.
Problem is scanning from the Adobe Standard 6.0

Need help with solving problem.
