Error when trying to send a pdf attachment???

I am using OUTLOOK EXPRESS, and have two accounts there one is a private email business account and one is an hotmail account. 95% of the time that I attempt to send an email with a .pdf file attachment (or multiple .pdf attachments) I get the error message: "The message could not be sent. An error occurred." This message is displayed with no numbers. Then, 5% of the time, .pdf files send with no problem. Sometimes I can even send multiple pdf's (mixed with .doc or .xls files). In my business I NEED to be able to send .pdf file attachments on a regular basis. What is the deal??? Has anyone else ever experienced this problem, or know a fix for this. I have already uninstalled all adobe products and re-installed, and tried multiple fixes with OUTLOOK EXPRESS AND HOTMAIL. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
