Prompted by your post, Gary, I tried again today. I still found the same thing - I change the file association as you describe, click Apply then OK, and nothing changes. However, I DID search the registry to see what was still referring to Acrobat 5.0, and came across the registry keys (HKCR stands for HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) HKCR\AcroExch.Document.7\shell\open\command [Default] where the Default entry was "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Acrobat\acrobat.exe" "%1" and similar entries (but with different strings instead of "%1" in the second pair of quotes) for the keys ...\shell\print\command and ...shell\Printto\command I changed all of these three key entries in the first pair of quote marks to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" taking care NOT to change the different entries in the second pair of quotes. This seems to have done the trick - a double click on a PDF file opens it in Reader 7 now, not Acrobat 5.0. I also found another entry referring to Acrobat 6.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe (must have been put there when I had Reader v6, before upgrading to v7) and changed that to Acrobat 7.0 instead. Hope this may help someone else. But DO make sure you have a registry backup or System Restore point first. John McClenahan
