This is a solution not a question. I wanted to document this so others will not have to spend the hours I did figuring it out. Adobe Reader was just displaying a grey (Webster's alt sp Gray) screen when I tried to activate it on my laptop after activating successfully on my desktop. The message said wait two minutes. I watched network, CPU and disk activity during that time and there was none. At times it appear to briefly display a dialog box that closed before it could be read. I had trouble with another piece of software that was trying to download something. That piece of software gave me an error message that I could look up. The solution I found solved my Adobe Reader activation problem as well. The solution was to delete all offline content from my temporary Internet files directory. I will outline the procedures for that after another quick comment. It appears that windows Internet access can slow down and even malfunction when this directory gets too full. Even when you have put a limit on how big this directory can get. Here is the procedure: If you are using Internet Explorer... Launch Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Internet Options. The 'Internet Options' dialog box is displayed. Click the 'Delete Files' button. The 'Delete Files' dialog box is displayed. Check the 'Delete all offline content' box. Click the 'OK' button to confirm the deletion of your temporary Internet files. Click the 'OK' button again to close the 'Internet Options' dialog box. Attempt to download again. (or in my case attempt to activate adobe reader on this computer) If you are using Firefox... Launch Firefox. Go to Tools > Options. The 'Options' dialog box is displayed. Click the 'Privacy' button. From the areas listed, locate 'Cache'. Click the 'Clear' button to the right of 'Cache' to delete your temporary Internet files. Click the 'OK' button again to close the 'Options' dialog box. Attempt to download again. (or in my case attempt to activate adobe reader on this computer) If you are using Netscape... Go to Edit > Preferences. The 'Preferences' dialog box is displayed. Under the 'Advanced' category, click on the 'Cache' section. Click the 'Clear Disk Cache' button, then click the 'OK' button to confirm the deletion of your temporary Internet files. Close the 'Preferences' dialog box. Attempt to download again. (or in my case attempt to activate adobe reader on this computer)
