I am having exactly the same problem. Win XP. Limited user acct lost pdf file assoc after upgrading to Reader 7 0 8 from Reader 6. Files can be opened from inside Reader, but when double-clicking pdf displayed as unknown-file-type icon, shows Reader as first option when selecting app to open file, but will not accept selection to "use this application to open this type file". Promoting to Administrator solves problem. Tried installing as Administrator and then demoting to Power User. No help. Tried installing from machine Administrator acct with Power User as Administrator and then demoting Power User acct. No help. This after uninstalling each time. To verify, set up completely new Power User acct, thinking something was glitched in other acct. Same response. Any help will be appreciated for this non-fatal but very annoying problem!
