Read Out Loud crashes

Every version of reader (7-8-9 and maybe 6) that I've used crashes when I use the read out loud feature. I can't even turn it on without it crashing. It had this problem on my previous computer and now on my current computer with XP and Vista.

A search about a year ago gave me the explanation that I had the wrong audio driver, but on 2 computers with 2 versions of windows with 3 different audio cards tells me something else might be going on.

I can only assume it is another software interfering with it. I'm looking for clues.
