ArcGIS to Adobe Reader

I have maps made in ArcGIS exported to Adobe Reader. The pdf has interactive layers making them initially quite large. I reduced the file size of each using Adobe Pro. The readers of the map using Adobe Reader have to wait a long time before being able to view the maps. Even after the wait the files often freeze-up. The readers that are using Foxit Reader have had no problems opening or working with the map. What can I do to the files to make it as easy a viewing experience for Adobe Reader users as it is for Foxit users?
