I have the exact same problem: using Publisher 2007, get a blank screen in Adobe Reader 9.0 (and 9.1... the upgrade did not fix the problem), the same error message as original poster, and I'm also unable to delete the corrupt PDF files.

Mine seems to be random. Sometimes it will properly create the PDF, and other times I get the white screen. I can have two Publisher files that are identical other than text, and one will convert to PDF properly and the other crashes.

Desperate for a solution!
