Perhaps the reason is that you have upgraded the Reader but have not bothered to update your printer drivers. Actually theres a good chance that your printer manufacturer has not bothered to update their driver. The test is to select Print As Image in the print dialog. If your pdf prints then the culprit is your printer driver. It cannot understand the postscript information that it is receiving from Reader 8. By selecting Print As Image the information is "dumbed down" so your printer can understand it.
