Conflict Between Professional and Reader?

I have Adobe Professional 8.0 loaded on my PC along with Reader 7.0. I've been told that I need to update to Reader 7.0.2 in order to access links, but Reader won't let me update while I have Professional loaded. More recently, while trying to access a link on the Internet through Reader, Reader gave me a prompt saying that I need to update to 7.0.2. When I clicked "OK," it prompted me again, then flashed me a message "Software failed" and everthing shut down. Does anybody have any ideas why these two are conflicting and how to get around it? I have to have Professional loaded so that I can create fill-in forms and I have to have Reader so that I can click on forms/links that I download to the Internet.
