No pdf documents print

I'm using Adobe Reader 8, Windows XP Pro SP2, HP 960c printer.

I just updated the printer drivers, because that seemed to help someone else solve this problem, but still no pdf documents will print. The task manager shows that 100% of cpu is used, 94-98% by Adobe Reader, but the page does not spool to the printer. The box that shows spooling shows up, but then the process stalls, no matter how long I wait. This happens with documents from the web and from those stored on my computer. There was no problem printing with AR 7.

To regain the use of my computer, I end the Adobe Reader process from the task manager. I've seen a question whether the printer is PCL or PS, and I don't know what that means, but my printer make & model are above.

How can I fix this?
