I currently have Adobe Reader 7.09. When I try to upgrade to version 8, I ger the following message during installation:

"Error 1406: Could not write value to key\software\classes\.pdf\Persistent Handler. Verify you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel."

There is no number given. I have consulted at length my computer supplier's software support centre in vain. I have had to revert back to Adobe 7.09. I had Flash Player 9, but uninstalled it and then tried to instal Adobe 8; with my computer supplier's support tried to enhance access in the registry etc, but still no luck.

Interesting thing is that I have a two year old Dell laptop and I was able to upgrade to Adobe Reader 8 on that computer without any problem.

The new Toshiba Satellite 110-102 is giving me a headache. It is just a month old computer with

RAM 1024
Pentinum DUO Core, 80GB, 1.7M processor

Any ideas?
