On another post about the same problem, the poster mentioned that they clicked the <Ignore> button, which brought up the error dialog again. They clicked <Ignore> again and then the installation continued. The results were Adobe Reader 8 installed, apparently successfully.

I tried the same thing on our problem machines and had the same results. I checked the registry and there was a new entry in the .pdf class after the install. Without any feedback from Adobe or someone more familiar with the reason for this problem, I can only presume that everything will be okay. So far our staff is using the app without any problems. I will post again if something unfortunate happens.
