I also got the above mentioned error messages when trying to install Reader 8.0 on a brand new system with XP SP 2 (I'm wondering if I.E. 7.0 has anything to do with it.) I had Acrobat 5.0 full version installed along with Adobe reader 7.0.9 - and they seemed to get along fine. The attempted install of 8.0 deleted Acrobat 5.0, which I require for compatability reasons. Following all of the suggestions in the Tech article did not help. Acrobat 7.0.9 reinstalled without problems... Now I have to see if I can still run Acrobat 5.0 somewhere, or if the attempted upgrade has really messed things up.
