I too am a power user who is affected in a similar way. Fresh installs of Adobe Reader 9.0 on several networks of XP / Vista machines with all patches and IE7 have the problem.

All the workarounds on this forums have not worked for me. While many users have posted "fixes", I think it is abundantly clear to any reader of posts from other users that problems remain. The only thing left is to "open windows outside IE7", a real kludge.

To the best of my knowledge, Adobe has not come up with any official tech note characterising this problem, let alone a fix.

I fully understand that this is a user-to-user forum. But insofar as some Adobe guys do view these forums, and negative publicity generated from a rant could incentivise a fix to this new behavior introduced in a "new, improved" version, I fully support the original poster.

Adobe 9 has many charming aspects, but the bugs are an aweful mess.
