Adobe 8.0 & 7.0 intallation problems

After downloading, it won't install and says the previous version of 8.0 can't be uninstalled. WIth the currently oprating 7.0, I can't remove it since it says that a certain patch is missing. I've tried to reinstall 7.0 and get the same missing patch error.

Am using Windows XP Pro, 1 GB of memory.
