On a Windows XP Media Center 2005 system the installation of Adobe Reader 8.0 hits a couple of snags over registry key permissions despite being run from an account in the Administrators group. The install displays a dialog complaining that it cannot write to a key named "SOFTWARE\Classes\.pdf\PersistentHandler" and gives the user a button to "Retry", "Cancel", or "Ignore". BTW, I believe it referred to the HKLM version of this Key, not the HKCR version, but can't be sure. Anyway, I chose "Ignore", and the installer complained about not having write access to a second key whose name I did not jot down. I chose "Ignore" a second time and the installation reported itself completed. I viewed the permissions on the first key and the only entry was the "Everyone" account; it had Read access. When I tried increasing the permission level access was denied. The Reader appears to run normally for now, but should there have been permissions problems with Registry keys? Cheers, Terry
