have adobe 8 reader installed & when i try to open a scanned tif (or any tif) i get the following error:

adobe reader could not open "filename.tif' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).

tried uninstalling all versions of adobe, deleting any regedit records. then re-installed adobe 6 and 8. i still get the error. pdf's open fine.

sidenote:
is it possible to change a tif to pdf after scanning?
