Help needed with Reader 7.0.9 update

I downloaded the update for AR 7.0.9 and now AR doesn't work at all. I have tried to install AR 8.0 over it, and it won't install because it cannot remove the older version which I can't access at all! I tried to do a System restore but that didn't work. When I updated the AR it removed something and now the only version I have that works is 5. I need to be able to either remove 7.0 completely or download a version that will work. I'm running XP sp2, and until today I have never run into any problem with AR. Any suggestions? please!
