Yes, please use Add/Remove and see if there is any version listed. If so-run the uninstaller. If that fails you will have to manually remove ALL of the Adobe Reader folders and Registry entries manually. The editing of the Registry is very DANGEROUS. There is commercial software to help with that, but if you are very careful and search you will find ALL of the basic references for Adobe and those are what you delete. I am assuming that you do not have any other Adobe product on your computer; that you have SP2 with ALL updates. You need to make a Restore Point and back up the Registry before removing anything.
Once the task is completed you can download and install Reader 8 and all should be just fine. This assumes that you do not have any conflicting programs. Another thing-run a complete virus, malware, spyware, etc. scan before going ahead with this repair. Also-do not use your anti-anything programs while uninstalling or installing Reader 8. Turn them on only when you have completed setup. Hope this idea helps.
