Adobe Update Manager has encountered a problem

I am receiving an error message, everytime that I turn on my computer. It is happening on various computers. The error message starts off "Adobe Update Manager has encountered a problem..... ".
The computer takes for ever to start up, and if you close the error box, the computer comes up quicker.

Why is this happening, and how can I correct it?
